30 April 2026 (2)

30 April 2026

This year Rosebud's art teacher would sporadically invite parents to come to art class with them.  I got to go three times and I really enjoyed hanging out with Rosebud and get creative!  Here we are with the pictures that we made showing the northern lights. We also had another class where we practiced quilling (very fun, never done that before).

Rosebud continues to engage in guided creativity at school.  Here is a poem she wrote about snow this winter, and a quilled snowflake.

She made a mask, I think sometime around Mardi Gras?

And she did some experimenting with shadows.

29 April 2026

When we asked D what he wanted for his birthday, he just repeated, "Enchiladas" over and over.  So Mr. Brown made TWO pans and he got to have one pan all for himself.

We had birthday dinner a couple days before because Nut Brown was getting his wisdom teeth out on D's actual birthday.  We had peanut butter brownies for the cake, but D ate too many enchiladas, so we didn't eat cake until the next day.

Many gifts and much love for our boy.  So happy to see him grow up!

Rosebud is finished a cross-stitch pattern that Rose Pink started years ago.  It's a little owl.  Rose Pink decided the owl should be orange instead of the green in the pattern.  Rosebud finished the orange part, and chose a different color for the branch it's sitting on and has decided to put stripes on its stomach instead of the hearts in the pattern.

There's a much larger height difference now, but they still play together sometimes.  Rosebud is always super happy when D is in the mood for imaginative play with her.

What is this?  I'm not sure.  Boy cuddles of some sort. (Nut Brown and D pictured)

20 April 2026

Rosebud has a new toy.  She inflated some latex gloves and made herself sleeves so that they are "her hands".  She's very excited and pleased with it.

20 April 2026

It was a weekend of festivals for Rosebud and me!  First up, off to the PTA-sponsored festival at her elementary school, where she got to hang out with her friends and I read a book.  Afterwards we went to see the middle school musical, because most of D's friends were involved in it and he wanted to see it.  One of Rosebud's friends was also there, to see her brother (one of D's friends).

The next day, Rosebud's friend asked if she could come hang out because she didn't like the activity options at home.  Rosebud and I were headed to festival #2, a camp fundraiser for one of the wards in the area.  The three of us had a good time together.  They dashed off on their own again, but at least this time I had friends to hang out with.  It was fun, and I got my face painted.  I liked it so much that I wore to church the next day, and people thought that I had been injured.

 First cookout of the season

We burned all the sticks that fell over the winter.  There were a lot. both of our maple trees drop tons.

5 April 2026

Rosebud asked for Easter activities this year. Sometimes she gets shorted on traditions for children because she's the youngest. So we dyed eggs (and ate egg sandwiches) and had an Easter egg hunt.

The boys were reluctant to participate, but once they got started and hid eggs for each other, they ended up having fun too!

1 April 2026

Rosebud is supposedly experimenting with lemon juice and invisible ink, but I think she's actually learning more about how to handle matches. She's slowly working her way through the box, lighting and relighting the candle.
